This particular taxon, formally described by Mendez, is native to the shaded understories of the Amazon basin and other tropical lowland forests, where it thrives in moist, humid, and organically rich environments.

The species is recognized for its elliptic to lanceolate leaves with prominent venation, arranged alternately on slender, often zigzagging stems. When crushed, the foliage releases a subtle aromatic scent, hinting at the complex essential oil chemistry characteristic of the Piper genus.
