The Calathea vitatta, also known as the Vittata Calathea or sometimes Calathea "Vittata", is a stunning plant known for its striking foliage and unique appearance. The Calathea vitatta features large, lance-shaped leaves with a distinct and eye-catching pattern. The leaves are typically dark green with prominent, narrow, light green to silver stripes running parallel along the length of the leaf, creating a pinstripe effect. The leaves have a glossy texture, enhancing the contrast between the dark and light stripes. The undersides of the leaves are usually a rich, deep red or maroon, which provides a dramatic and attractive contrast to the upper leaf surface.

The Calathea vitatta grows in a clumping manner, producing a compact, upright rosette of leaves. Its growth is generally bushy and well-suited for indoor environments.  It has a moderate growth rate. With proper care, it will grow steadily, though it is not known for exceptionally fast growth. The Calathea vitatta is a visually captivating plant that adds an element of exotic beauty and elegance to any indoor space. With proper care, it will continue to display its stunning foliage and enhance your home decor.

  • Lighting

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burn and fading of colors.

  • Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater to avoid chlorine and fluoride, which can cause leaf browning.

  • Toxicity

Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a great choice for homes with cats and dogs.

  • Fertilization

Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks in spring and summer. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to salt buildup. No need to fertilize in fall and winter.
