The Calathea musaica, commonly known as the Mosaic Plant or Network Plant, is renowned for its intricate leaf patterns and unique appearance. The standout feature of the Calathea musaica is its leaves. They are oval-shaped and exhibit a complex mosaic-like pattern of dark green and light green with intricate, grid-like veining that resembles a network or mosaic. The leaf surface has a glossy, somewhat textured appearance that enhances its visual appeal. The undersides of the leaves are a rich burgundy or reddish-brown, adding a striking contrast to the foliage.

The Calathea musaica grows in a clumping manner, forming a dense rosette of leaves. Its compact, upright growth makes it well-suited for indoor environments. It has a moderate growth rate. With appropriate care, it will grow steadily, though it is not known for exceptionally rapid growth. The Calathea musaica is a beautiful and unique plant that can add a touch of elegance and complexity to any indoor space. With the right care, it will thrive and continue to showcase its stunning foliage.

  • Lighting

Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate low light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can cause leaf burn and fading of colors.

  • Watering

Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Use filtered, distilled, or rainwater to avoid chlorine and fluoride, which can cause leaf browning.

  • Toxicity

Non-toxic to pets and humans, making it a great choice for homes with cats and dogs.

  • Fertilization

Feed with a balanced, diluted liquid fertilizer every 4 weeks in spring and summer. Avoid over-fertilizing, as it can lead to salt buildup. No need to fertilize in fall and winter.
