Size

Alocasia Zebrina is a striking tropical plant known for its unique foliage and upright growth habit. Alocasia zebrina leaves are arrowhead-shaped or triangular with prominent, elongated tips. They can grow quite large, typically reaching 12 to 18 inches (30 to 45 cm) in length and about 8 inches (20 cm) in width.

The most distinctive feature of Alocasia zebrina is its foliage pattern. The leaves are green with bold, white to silvery-green veins that resemble zebra stripes. These veins run perpendicular to the central vein of the leaf, creating a striking contrast against the dark green leaf surface.

Alocasia zebrina is prized for its ornamental foliage and makes an excellent focal point in indoor gardens or tropical-themed landscapes. With proper care and attention to its specific needs, this plant can thrive and continue to showcase its stunning zebra-striped leaves.

  • Lighting

Prefers bright, indirect light. Avoid direct sunlight, which can scorch leaves. Can tolerate medium light, but growth may slow. If grown outdoors, place in partial shade.

  • Watering

Keep the soil evenly moist but not soggy. Water when the top 1-2 inches of soil are dry. Avoid overwatering, as Alocasia is prone to root rot. Use distilled, filtered, or rainwater to prevent leaf browning.

  • Toxicity

Toxic to pets and humans if ingested (contains calcium oxalate crystals). Keep away from cats, dogs, and children. If ingested, it can cause mouth irritation, drooling, and stomach upset. Wear gloves when handling if you have sensitive skin.

  • Fertilization

Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertilizer (diluted to half strength). Do not fertilize in fall and winter when the plant is dormant. Avoid over-fertilizing, which can cause salt buildup and leaf damage. Organic fertilizers like worm castings or fish emulsion are great options!
