Tacca Chantrieri ‘Black Bat’

Tacca chantrieri, commonly known as the Black Bat Plant, is a true horticultural marvel—celebrated for its jet-black, bat-shaped bracts and long, trailing whiskers that can extend up to 28 inches. Native to the understory of Southeast Asian rainforests, this species evokes a sense of the otherworldly, with flowers that resemble a bat in mid-flight or even a cluster of winged moths at dusk.

The dramatic inflorescence is actually composed of dark purple to black floral bracts surrounding tiny, true flowers, and is typically borne atop tall stalks rising above lush, pleated, lance-shaped foliage. The plant blooms from late spring into fall, especially under optimal warmth and humidity.
